Chapter 1: Betrayal at the Splendor Hotel
by SlivvoThe grand halls of the Splendor Hotel in Orlando, Florida, exuded luxury, a place where only the elite indulged. It was the last place Jordan Steele expected to make a delivery.
Knock, knock.
“Sir, your takeout has arrived.”
Dressed in a yellow delivery uniform, Jordan stood outside a lavish suite, holding a bag of food.
“Coming!”
The door swung open, and Jordan’s breath hitched.
A well-dressed man stood before him, but Jordan’s eyes darted past him—straight to the woman draped in a white bathrobe behind him.
Hailey Camden.
His wife.
Clang!
The bag slipped from Jordan’s grip, crashing onto the marble floor.
He had been puzzled when the order instructed him to deliver directly to a guest’s door—a rare request for a five-star hotel. Now, he knew why. Fate had played a cruel trick on him.
The stranger’s expression darkened at the sight of the spilled takeout. Just as he was about to lash out, Hailey let out a gasp.
“Hubby! You… why are you here?!”
Her voice trembled, not with remorse, but with shock at being caught.
The man beside her smirked, scrutinizing Jordan from head to toe. “So, this is your husband, Hailey? A delivery man?” He chuckled. “Had I known, I would’ve just ordered room service instead.”
Despite being discovered in a compromising situation, he remained unfazed. Why would he be? He knew who Jordan was—a lowly live-in son-in-law. An outsider to the influential Camden family.
Jordan’s hands balled into fists as he stared at his wife, betrayal searing through his veins.
“Hailey, for three years, I’ve cooked for you, taken care of your pets, and remained loyal to you. You never even let me hold your hand, and I believed it was because you had principles. But this… why?”
Hailey’s face flickered with guilt for a brief moment before it twisted into arrogance. She stepped forward, arms crossed.
“Watch what you say, Jordan. You don’t understand the consequences.”
She gestured toward the man beside her.
“Do you even know who he is? This is Tyler Collins, CEO of an investment firm and a member of one of Orlando’s top families. We’re here for a business meeting. If you don’t believe me, I can show you the contract—but would you even understand it?”
Jordan clenched his jaw.
Hailey had always looked down on him, but hearing her say it so blatantly stung deeper than he expected.
Tyler smirked, eyeing the spilled food. “Originally, I was going to file a complaint about my chicken soup, but since you’re Hailey’s husband, I’ll be generous. I’ll give you a five-star rating… if you apologize to me.”
Jordan narrowed his eyes. Apologize? To the man sleeping with his wife?
He turned to Hailey, expecting her to put an end to Tyler’s mockery. But instead, she scoffed.
“Just apologize, Jordan. Tyler isn’t someone you want to offend.”
Jordan’s patience snapped.
“You’re both unbelievable,” he spat. “You betray me, and now you expect me to grovel?”
His fists clenched. A part of him wanted to punch Tyler in the face, but before he could take a step forward, Tyler staggered back in fear. Hailey immediately shielded him, glaring at Jordan as though he were the villain.
“Look at yourself,” she sneered. “Dressed like that, you don’t even belong in a place like this. Get out before I call security!”
Jordan exhaled sharply.
He locked eyes with Hailey, his voice cold. “One day, I hope you don’t regret this.”
Turning on his heel, he walked away.
Hailey’s voice rang out behind him.
“Marrying a loser like you was my biggest regret!”
The words echoed in the grand hallway, but their weight settled heavily in Jordan’s chest.
Outside, he mounted his motorcycle, the city’s neon lights blurring around him.
Then his phone rang.
“Hello, this is UberEats,” Jordan answered, slipping back into professional mode.
A calm yet authoritative voice responded, “Sir, your three-year character development as a live-in son-in-law officially ends today. Your next assignment is to gain experience in business management. Mr. Steele Senior has purchased Ace Corporation and appointed you as chairman.”
Jordan barely reacted.
“Understood,” he replied indifferently.
Any other deliveryman would have been ecstatic at such a revelation. But Jordan? He simply felt numb.
The caller hesitated before continuing, “Mr. Steele Senior wants to know—do you still wish to bring your wife into the Steele family as an inheritor?”
Jordan let out a low, humorless chuckle.
“Let Hailey Camden inherit my family’s billions? Not a chance. She’s not worthy.”
With that, he ended the call, gripped the handlebars, and revved the engine. The motorcycle roared to life, tearing through the bustling streets of Orlando.
This was just the beginning.
