Chapter 58: A Thousand Reasons
by SlivvoThe stadium fell silent as Jordan sat at the grand piano, his fingers poised over the keys.
Tyler and Hailey watched in shock.
“Since when could Jordan play?” Tyler asked, frowning.
Hailey shook her head. Three years of marriage—she had never seen him touch a piano.
The superstar, intrigued, stepped back.
“Ladies and gentlemen, a round of applause for our brave performer!”
The crowd cheered.
Jordan didn’t acknowledge them.
He just closed his eyes… and played.
The Performance
The first notes of A Thousand Reasons to be Sad filled the arena.
The audience exploded in recognition.
But Hailey?
She froze.
His technique was flawless.
Every note was crisp, every chord powerful.
Her chest tightened.
He’s been playing for years… but never once for me?
As Jordan began to sing, his deep, velvety voice washed over the crowd.
“The person I loved is no longer mine…”
The audience erupted into applause.
Hailey gasped.
His voice…
It wasn’t just good.
It was heart-stopping.
Even the superstar, standing behind him, smiled in admiration.
Unbeknownst to the audience, Jordan had been trained by Seth Riggs, vocal coach to Michael Jackson himself.
This wasn’t some amateur performance.
This was a star-worthy moment.
The band joined in, and even the superstar harmonized with him.
Together, they turned it into a once-in-a-lifetime performance.
“There are a thousand reasons to be sad…”
“But losing you isn’t one of them.”
Hailey trembled.
Her fingers curled into a fist.
Her heart pounded.
This wasn’t the man she had married.
This was someone… bigger.
The applause was deafening.
But Jordan didn’t stay to bask in it.
He simply walked off stage.
Without a word.
Without looking back.
Hailey snapped.
“Jordan!”
She threw off Tyler’s hand and ran.
Tyler tried to chase after her, but Victoria blocked his path.
“So what if she chases him?” she smirked. “She already said yes to you.”
Tyler hesitated.
Then, he laughed.
“Hah! You’re right. She’s mine now.”
The Chase
Outside, Jordan strode toward the exit.
His hands trembled.
His eyes burned.
She really said yes.
Hailey caught up with him, her breath ragged.
“Jordan! Hold it right there!”
She grabbed his arm.
Jordan stopped.
Turned.
His eyes glistened.
He had been crying.
Hailey’s heart ached.
Without thinking, she threw herself into his arms.
Jordan stiffened.
Then, he gently pushed her away.
“Don’t,” he murmured. “You’re going to be someone else’s wife soon.”
Hailey clutched his shirt.
“Silly… if you love me this much, why did you divorce me?”
Jordan’s breath hitched.
Was she serious?
Hailey’s eyes shone with desperation.
“I know… men can’t stand being cheated on.”
“But not all men get to demand a divorce.”
Jordan’s stomach twisted.
He forced himself to ask.
“What kind of men can’t?”
Hailey’s voice was gentle—as if explaining something obvious.
“Men who are wealthy and powerful have the right to leave.”
“But men like you… men from a poor family… should just accept it.”
Jordan’s world stopped.
Hailey smiled sadly.
“If you had just… let it go, I would still be your wife.”
