Chapter 61: The Wedding Invitation
by SlivvoThe afternoon sun bore down on the streets of Orlando, shimmering against the metal frames of passing cars.
Inside a BMW, parked under the shade of a palm tree, Tyler Collins was fuming.
“What? Enigma Co. has shut down too!?” He clenched the steering wheel. “That was my biggest money-maker!”
His investment portfolio had taken a devastating hit. One after another, the companies he had been profiting from were suddenly collapsing.
This wasn’t bad luck.
This was targeted sabotage.
“Damn it! I’m losing everything!” Tyler growled.
He immediately dialed his father’s number.
“Dad! My investments are tanking. Lend me $15 million!”
A sigh came from the other end.
“Tyler, the company is already in a tight spot,” Leonard Collins said. “I just spoke to Paul Dubrule, and he told me to reopen all the hotels we’ve closed down and start expanding rapidly.”
Tyler froze.
“But… Dubrule used to warn us against that strategy!”
Leonard huffed. “Times have changed! Even migrant workers can afford hotels now. The era of ‘high-quality services’ is over. Quantity is the new game. We’re investing everything in this expansion.”
Tyler’s stomach dropped.
If they were wrong, they’d lose everything.
“This is crazy! We shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket! What if Dubrule’s advice is wrong this time!?”
Leonard hesitated… then sighed.
“Fine. You’ve been doing well in investments, so I’ll give you $75 million to invest on your own.”
Tyler’s eyes lit up.
“Thanks, Dad! I’ll turn this into $750 million!”
Just as he ended the call, Hailey entered the car, her silky hair falling over her shoulders.
Noticing his excitement, she asked, “What’s got you so happy?”
Tyler grinned. “My father just gave me $75 million!”
Hailey’s eyes sparkled.
She thought to herself: The Collins are so rich… his father just handed him $75 million like it was nothing.
She gently held Tyler’s hand and said sweetly, “Tyler, I’m so happy to be your wife. I’ve never had this much money before.”
Tyler puffed up proudly.
“That’s right! Jordan’s pathetic father probably couldn’t even give him a few thousand dollars, haha!”
Hailey paused for a moment before forcing a smile.
Tyler smirked. “By the way, shouldn’t you start calling me something else?”
Hailey hesitated before softly murmuring:
“…Hub… Hubby.”
For the first time, she had called a man other than Jordan her husband.
Yet, unlike the warmth and happiness she used to feel when calling Jordan that, this time… she felt empty.
She stared out of the car window, lost in thought.
‘Maybe… this is how things were meant to be between Jordan and me.’
She quickly shook away those emotions and focused on the present.
“Tyler, drop me off at Ace Corporation. I want to personally deliver our wedding invitations to Mr. Steele and Miss Clarke.”
Tyler raised an eyebrow.
“Are you inviting Jordan?”
Hailey’s expression stiffened. “He’s my ex-husband. Why would I invite him?”
Tyler laughed wickedly. “That would make things interesting! Got an extra invitation?”
Without waiting, he grabbed one from her bag and scribbled Jordan’s name on it.
At the bottom, he wrote:
“If you’re a man, turn up for the wedding so you can see what a real grand wedding looks like!”
He shoved the card back to Hailey.
She knew what he was trying to do—humiliate Jordan in front of everyone.
Instead of stopping him, she merely bit her lip and stayed silent.
Tyler grinned, then held her hand tightly.
“By the way, Hailey, stay over at my place tonight. We’re married now.”
Hailey gently pulled away. “Grandma doesn’t want me to move in before the wedding. Just wait one more week.”
Tyler frowned. “Damn, your family is so conservative! I’ve only slept with you once! But hey, that’s one more time than Jordan ever did, haha!”
Hailey’s smile faltered.
She lowered her head. “Let’s… not talk about him.”
The BMW sped off toward Ace Corporation.
A Shocking Revelation at Ace Corporation
Twenty minutes later, Hailey knocked on the door to Victoria Clarke’s office.
“Come in.”
Victoria, dressed in an elegant navy dress, stood up.
She looked Hailey up and down and smirked.
“Mrs. Collins, you look gorgeous today,” she said with mock politeness. “Marrying a rich man really suits you.”
Hailey smiled tightly. “Thank you. But it will take me another ten years to match your class and elegance, Miss Clarke.”
They exchanged polite insults before Hailey placed the wedding invitations on the desk.
“I’m here to invite you and Mr. Steele to our wedding,” Hailey said smoothly.
Victoria eyed the invitation with mild interest.
She flipped it open.
Her expression changed instantly.
“Wait a minute…” Victoria’s eyes widened. “The 12th of May?”
Hailey nodded proudly.
“Yes. In one week.”
Victoria’s lips parted in shock.
She stared at Hailey.
“The 12th of May is…”
Victoria turned her head toward the closed door of Jordan’s office.
She whispered:
“…Jordan’s birthday.”
