Chapter 77: False Hope
by SlivvoBe it a nurse, a doctor, a pilot, or an entrepreneur, all humans possess a degree of empathy toward their own gender.
To the female nurse attending to Hailey, she was nothing short of a goddess-like beauty.
Men should cherish a woman like her! How could he make her kneel in the rain? This is outrageous!
This particular nurse had a strong feminist stance, boasting a large Instagram following filled with supporters who often posted lengthy captions advocating for women’s rights. She had once publicly condemned the renowned pianist Evan Cadence for marrying a woman ten years his junior, calling him a cradle-snatcher unworthy of such a brilliant wife.
To her, men were the problem.
So, she made a decision.
“When we arrived at the villa,” she said, deliberately fabricating a story, “she was inside—on the second or third floor.”
The room fell silent.
Had Jordan truly taken Hailey inside?
A wave of relief washed over Sylvie and Hailey. He still cares.
Of course, Jordan was a gentleman. No one expected him to leave an unconscious woman outside in the rain.
The nurse continued, “When we found Miss Camden, the rainwater had already been wiped away. Apart from her hair and clothes, her body was completely dry.”
This was an outright lie.
Jordan had only carried Hailey inside and wiped her face and neck. The rest of her was untouched.
But the impact of the nurse’s words was instant.
“Did Jordan dry her off himself?”
Hailey felt a flutter of hope, even as she acknowledged that the villa had maids who could have done it.
The nurse’s next words nearly made her heart burst with joy.
“I also noticed that Miss Camden’s clothes were a little messy,” she added. “I suspect the man in the villa may have… taken certain liberties with her.”
“What?”
Both Hailey and Sylvie gasped—delighted.
Hailey gripped the sheets in excitement. “Jordan still loves me! I knew it!”
The nurse frowned, puzzled by their reactions. “Miss Camden, you’re a stunning woman. You could have any man you want. Why humiliate yourself by kneeling for one? It’s disgraceful.”
She crossed her arms, indignant. “Aside from his wealth, he doesn’t seem to have much to offer. He isn’t even that tall. He’s just another arrogant scoundrel.”
Rachel’s eyes darkened. Without hesitation, she pulled a twenty-dollar bill from her purse and handed it to the nurse. “That’s enough. You can leave now.”
The nurse scoffed but took the money and walked away.
As soon as she was gone, Hailey grabbed her mother’s hands in elation. “Mom, did you hear that? Jordan might have kissed me while I was unconscious!”
Sylvie beamed. “I knew it! My daughter is too beautiful for any man to resist.”
Rachel smirked. “Didn’t I tell you? Jordan’s pride won’t let him admit it, but deep down, he’s already forgiven you. Keep pushing, Hailey. Sooner or later, he’ll take you back.”
Hailey nodded enthusiastically. “Yes, yes!”
Meanwhile, Drew and Elle stood nearby, listening closely.
Elle, always prone to unrealistic fantasies, thought, Jordan actually took advantage of Hailey? Her gaze flickered. If I faint in front of him one day, will he do the same to me?
Drew, however, was focused on something else entirely.
He stepped forward and declared, “Hailey, you have me to thank for this.”
She blinked. “What?”
Drew smirked. “You might be beautiful, but if I hadn’t personally kept an eye on you and stopped you from moving in with Tyler before marriage, do you think Jordan would still want you if Tyler had… tainted you?”
Hailey’s stomach twisted.
She could lie about what happened at the hotel, but if Drew hadn’t pretended to follow Diana’s orders and kept tabs on her, she would have slept with Tyler. She had been ready to do so, thinking it was her duty as a wife.
But if that had happened, Jordan would never forgive her.
She exhaled shakily. “Thank you, Drew.”
Drew smirked. “You’re welcome.”
Determined, Hailey pulled out her IV. “I passed out because I was upset. I don’t need this anymore. I need to go home and tell Grandma the good news!”
She knew how much was at stake. If she failed to win Jordan back, Diana wouldn’t acknowledge her as a Camden.
But this? This was a victory.
She had to tell Diana immediately.
An hour later, at the Camdens’ villa.
Diana listened carefully as Hailey recounted the nurse’s words.
After a moment, she smiled. “Thank God my granddaughter was blessed with such a beautiful face.” She chuckled. “As long as Jordan still has feelings for you, we still have a chance.”
Rachel nodded. “The problem now is that Jordan’s ego won’t let him admit it. He’s stubborn. He might even refuse to see Hailey again.”
Diana’s expression hardened. “Yes, that’s exactly how he is. We must find a way to get Hailey in front of him again.”
Sylvie leaned forward. “How?”
Diana’s gaze drifted downward—to the small poodle curled up beside her.
Lucky.
Without hesitation, she threw the dog onto the floor and stomped on its front paw.
“Ahhh!”
The poodle yelped in agony.
“Grandma!” Hailey gasped. “What are you doing?”
Diana didn’t flinch. “Drew, call Jordan tomorrow and tell him that his favorite poodle is injured.”
